- Imbalances in dietary fat intake
- Skin problems
- Rheumatoid arthritis
Evening Primrose Oil capsules provide 10% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), the omega-6 essential fatty acid often missing from our diets. This direct source of GLA takes the pressure off the body to produce the necessary amount of GLA for optimum health.
GLA is necessary for the synthesis of the E1 series of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins control many of the body’s most complex biochemical functions including the menstrual cycle and the inflammatory processes associated with health conditions such as arthritis.
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
Evidence suggests that many of the symptoms of PMS are related to dietary imbalances and nutritional deficiencies. The effects of PMS may become more pronounced when the body’s supply of GLA is deficient. Many studies have confirmed that evening primrose oil reduces the painful symptoms of menstruation and helps to relieve some of the symptoms of PMS.
The dose may need to be adjusted in terms of days per month and the quantity given. Initially, for severe cases, 3 to 6 capsules should be given daily, from the 14th day until the first day of the next period. Based on results, the dose can either be reduced or increased in terms of amounts given, but it is not necessary to commence therapy any earlier than the 14th day.
Eczema and Other Skin Conditions
Eczema sufferers often do not have the ability to process fatty acids, which can result in GLA deficiency. Many double-blind studies have shown that evening primrose oil can overcome this block and is useful in the treatment of eczema.
Due to its unique fatty acid content, Evening Primrose Oil has also been used successfully to treat scaly skin conditions, where its effects in reducing itching were the most striking.
Prostaglandins derived from GLA in evening primrose oil have an anti-inflammatory effect on swollen and painful joints. Clinical studies found that GLA consistently improved symptoms of morning stiffness, joint pain and swelling, and appeared to reduce reliance on arthritis medications.
GLA is known to help prevent hardening of the arteries, heart disease and high blood pressure. It also aids in lowering cholesterol levels.
Take 1 capsule 3 times a day, preferably with food or as prescribed.
